Net-Zero by 2050. What does the gas boiler ban beginning in 2025 mean for me and my property?

January 18, 2022

The gas boiler ban from 2025 is part of the UK government’s plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. It means that from 2025, gas boilers will no longer be installed in newly built homes in the UK.

It is important to note, however, that this change does not mean that you will be required to replace your existing gas boiler. Only newly built properties will be affected, and there are currently no planned bans and legislations on gas boilers in the homes we live in today (i.e., built before 2025).

If you already have a gas boiler in your home that is relatively new, you can continue using it until it reaches the end of its useful life. In case your boiler is old, you might want to replace it, as newer boilers are much more energy efficient. Yet, gas boilers aren’t the best for the environment, especially with the focus on achieving net zero emissions, so therefore, if you are looking at reducing your carbon footprint, you may wish to consider replacing your gas boiler with an alternative, such as an air source heat pump.

The air source heat pump is a renewable energy technology that can provide efficient and cost-effective heating for your home. This system works by extracting heat from the air outside and transferring it inside, where it is used to keep warm your lovely home.

The air source heat pump can provide both heating and hot water and can also be used for cooling in the summer months. It is highly efficient, as it can produce up to three times more energy than it consumes, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly heating solution. Whilst it is an excellent technology, it is still fairly new and unfortunately not suitable for all properties. To discuss your heat pump requirements and property suitability, please get in touch.
